Expanding Positivity with Dr. Lucie Hemmen

Expanding Positivity with Dr. Lucie Hemmen

By: Daisy Hemmen

Boody is passionate about more than our clothing. We’re passionate about you and connecting you with resources that improve your health, balance, and overall well being!  That’s why we launched an IGTV series called Boody x Sessions, a series of offerings designed to give you solid and meaningful informational nuggets. These videos feature global experts in the field of health, wellness and the arts, teaching their crafts and imparting their insights in a fast and fun format.

Featured guest Lucie Hemmen is an author and clinical psychologist who comes to us from Santa Cruz, California to talk about creating healthy rituals.  With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Lucie specializes in treating anxiety, depression, and trauma.  She also has a special fondness for working with teen girls and has written 3 books on the topic.

Dr. Lucie’s two books that can be found in stores now are Parenting a Teen Girl: A Crash Course on Conflict, Communication & Connection with Your Teenage Daughter, and A Teen Girl’s Survival Guide: 10 Tips For Making Friends, Avoiding Drama, and Coping With Social Stress. Her most recent book The Teen Girl Anxiety Survival Guide comes out in February 2021 and she feels it’s her best book yet.

Anxiety was hitting new levels of intensity even before the pandemic.  Now, it’s even higher.  While this book focuses on teens, I think anxiety is something we are all struggling with to some degree.  We are emotional creatures who thrive in connection with one another.  Now, we grapple with maintaining connection under truly extraordinary circumstances.  I’m touched by Boody’s commitment to closing the gap between us with this series and I’m honored to contribute!”

Dr. Lucie shares a strategy (anchoring) designed to help us all establish - and remember - new rituals we can add to our day to increase positivity.  The best way to reduce negative spirals is to focus on the simple practices we repeat until they become rituals and routines that ground us in self-love. An appealing part of her message is that self-care does not have to be arduous or time-consuming.  In fact, it can be as simple and pure as beginning the day with lemon water. Because it’s not only what you do but HOW you do it, Dr. Lucie makes preparing your morning beverage into a mindfulness practice. Now that’s a tip we can all sip on!
